Wordsearch’s pick of architectural and cultural events in London
Posted:
You may have every day this month mapped out with cocktail parties, lunches, launches and after-work tipples, but try to squeeze in some of the below. Visit a craft fair, take an architectural boat tour down the Thames, and depending how fond you are of the skin on your knees, spectate or partake in central London’s Santa Skate.
Tatty Devine are hosting a crystal shard necklace making workshop in the highest viewing platform of The Shard, offering spectacular night-time views and your own necklace to take away. You’ll be supplied with laser cut crystals in rose, sky blue and yellow perspex, and shown how to fashion your very own necklace by Tatty Devine founders Harriet Vine and Rosie Wolfenden. 2nd December.
After 20 years of involvement with Broadgate, Wordsearch are happy to vouch for the magical quality of London’s longest running outdoor rink. Take a late night skate, or just watch in the warmth from The Tasting Room, a smokehouse which also specialises in gourmet, hopefully unsmoked doughnuts. Now until 2th Feb (closed on 25th)
Architecture on the Thames Boat Tour
Take an architecturally-focused boat tour along the river Thames this December. Departing from Festival Pier, the boat sails past Battersea Power Station, Foster’s Studio, The Shard and Tower Bridge. Tickets include mulled wine and commentary from learned guide and friend of Wordsearch, architect Benedict O’Looney. 13th December.
Craft Central present The Maker’s Emporium, a one week Christmas boutique just around the corner from Wordsearch’s HQ. Local designers will be selling everything from leatherwork, jeweller, prints and photography. 10am-9pm, 2nd-7th December.
Another instalment in NLA’s series of London walking tours. This trip takes you around the once sniffed at area of Bankside. New residential developments by Rogers Stirk Harbour and office space by Allies and Morrison have helped regenerate a neglected area of London into a desirable working and living area. 13th December.
Creative Clerkenwell Christmas Pop-up
Here’s another crafty market happening in creative Clerkenwell. Curated by Charlene Lam, the pop-up shop features gifts from UK designers and makers. Upon purchase there is also a rather exciting wrapping and sticker station! 16th-23rd December.
Sometimes all you want to do is dress up like Father Christmas and skate around central London with a pint of fosters in your hand. For those times, there’s the infinitely popular Santa Skate. The event begins at 2pm…in a pub, and the actual skate starts at 5pm, making for an interesting evening for Santa’s and spectators too. Guidelines include not holding hands and being aware of the sound system when it is behind you. 13th December.
